Joel Edgerton is a first-time Golden Globes Awards Live Stream nominee, Mel Gibson is on a comeback tour with a best director nod for the Australian-produced Hacksaw Ridge, and Nicole Kidman has racked up her 10th Golden Globe nomination for the Australian-produced drama Lion.

But what they all share is national pride. “Wow, it’s fantastic,” Gibson says, referring to the three individual nominations as well as nominees for best drama, Hacksaw Ridge (and its lead Andrew Garfield) and Lion (and supporting actor Dev Patel). “Australia is truly a global player in the film world now and it’s exciting to see the Aussies are so well represented.

Gibson and Kidman have a long history with the Golden Globe awards, given out for the past 74 years by a small group of foreign journalists based in Hollywood and long viewed as an important box to check on the way to the Academy Awards.

Says Kidman, “The first time I went to the Golden Globes, I was nominated for Billy Bathgate [1991 drama starring Dustin Hoffman] and I couldn’t believe anyone even knew who I was, so to get nominated was just stunning to me.” Times have changed for the movie star, whose date that year was her new husband, Tom Cruise. Tomorrow Golden Globes Awards Live Stream she’ll be bringing her Aussie husband of 10 years, Keith Urban, and host Jimmy Fallon has asked her to participate in the show’s pre-taped opening skit alongside Ryan Reynolds, Justin Timberlake and Tina Fey. “The Golden Globes is already the most fun awards show of them all and Jimmy will really tap into that vibe,” she says.

Gibson vaguely remembers appearing as a presenter on the Golden Globes “when I was a young actor 30 or 40 years ago” but will never forget the “big thrill” he felt on  winning his 1995 best director Golden Globe for Braveheart. “It’s always a good excuse to sit down, eat a rubber chicken and have a rubberneck at all the other famous people around,” he says. “You get to meet people you’ve admired for a long time. Last time I met Sly and Clint Eastwood so it’s kind of a cool, fun thing to do.” He was also famously skewered by past host Ricky Gervais on two memorable occasions but is confident he’s safe this year. “I’ve been told Jimmy is pretty harmless,” Gibson says. “I remember after the last experience with Ricky, I wanted to strangle him. I saw him later and he said, ‘We were great’ and I said, ‘Yeah right, now move on!'”

Edgerton has no idea what to expect as the new kid on the carpet, adding, “I’ve never been before but it feels exciting to be recognised in this category because Golden Globes 2017 Live hey are all actors I admire greatly.”

If the three Aussies continue making the rounds during the long awards season leading up to the Oscars on February 26, they will be spending a lot of time together. Kidman says, “I think any time you are nominated with fellow Australians and you start to see them all the time at these things, you feel like you get closer and closer.”

Gibson is also looking forward to some bonding. “I know Joel, I’ve hung out with him a little bit but I’ve known Nic only peripherally and said hello to her one time so it’ll be fun if we share a few more bad meals together!

When it comes to the Golden Globes, Hollywood’s next generation always has a place on stage.

Back in 1962, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to profile a daughter or son of one of the industry’s most respected talents to serve as Miss or Mr. Golden Globe.

What came next was a yearly tradition that has introduced many second and third generation stars.

Ever since Eva Six and Donna Douglas kicked things off, several of today’s most famous faces were given the opportunity to shine in front of millions of viewers.

Melanie Griffith and Laura Dern were given the role back in the ‘70s and ‘80s respectively. In the ‘90s, actors like Joely Fisher and Freddie Prinze Jr. also took on the title.

Rumer Willis, Francesca Eastwood, Greer Grammer and Corinne Foxx followed before this year’s famous faces were announced.

Back in November, Sylvester Stallone’s daughters made history when they were announced as joint Miss Golden Globes for 2017. Sophia, Sistine and Scarlet are the first set of “multiple siblings” to be chosen for the role.

“We’re thrilled to not only be part of the Golden Globe tradition, but to be making history as the first set of siblings ever chosen for the title and duties,” they said in a statement. “We are proud to be part of the HFPA family, an organization that multiple times has recognized our father’s work in film.”

President of the HFPA Lorenzo Soria added, “The Stallone sisters will continue our time honored tradition of handing out the statuettes at the awards ceremony,” he said. “Each of the lovely young women in the triad have had success whether it be in academics, sports or pursuing a modeling career. With being raised by such role models Sylvester and Jennifer, we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for these ladies.”

If you think the job is a walk in the park, Corinne previously admitted to us that there is a lot of pressure before the show goes live in Hollywood.

“I don’t want to trip. I don’t want to fall, I don’t want to drop the award…” she told E! News’ Will Marfuggi. “Jennifer Lawrence gets away with it, 74th Golden Globes Awards Live so I should be fine, right?” The University of Southern California Trojan ended up doing a stellar job.

While Mr. or Miss Golden Globe remains busy throughout the night, they can’t help but cheer on their favorite movies and TV series from the past year. If they’re lucky, they also may get to meet a few famous faces.

And for others, their time on stage may just include a special shoutout from their parents.

“I couldn’t be prouder to introduce tonight’s Miss Golden Globe,” Melanie told the crowd back in 2006. “My daughter Dakota Johnson.” Talk about a night to remember.[source]

The Golden Globes—well, every awards-show ceremony—is a little like The Bachelor:Who wins is SO IMPORTANT while you’re watching, but in a year, everyone’s just going to put on ball gowns and play the game all over again. Yes, it’s awesome and important that we honor the best art and artists of the year, but let’s be real. In the grand scheme of things, by the time actors are nominated for a Golden Globe, they’ve won. Statuette or not, that person is going home a movie and/or TV star.

That said, it’s fun to speculate—and we’d be lying if we said we didn’t have our favorites, especially when it comes to this year’s nominated actresses in movies and TV. So let’s get this Rose Ceremony started and reveal our picks for who we predict will win the 2017 Golden Globes.

That’s right, this weekend officially kicks off award season and all of your favorite stars are in Los Angeles preparing for the big day.

Nominees Justin Timberlake, Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield are all expected to be at the Golden Globes this Sunday and we can’t wait to see them walk the red carpet.

Sunday could make for an awesome date night for celeb couples like Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, and Timberlake and his wife Jessica Biel!

What on paper seemed like a cut-and-dried “serious film” (an award-winning actress plays a famous figure) turned out to be a moody, cerebral meditation on grief and history, something far more audacious than the usual biopic fare. While all the actresses nominated in this category turned in powerhouse performances, Portman is Jackie, and Jackie is Portman’s portrayal. Jackie goes beyond the actor showcase; it’s something akin to a one-woman show.

ACTRESS IN A COMEDY (FILM)

Who Is Nominated: Annette Bening, 20th Century Women; Lily Collins, Rules Don’t Apply; Hailee Steinfeld, The Edge of Seventeen; Emma Stone, La La Land; Meryl Streep, Florence Foster Jenkins

Who We Think Will Win: Emma Stone, La La Land

Lily Collins (Rules Don’t Apply) and Hailee Steinfeld (Edge of Seventeen) will surely take over the world in the next five years, and we will cheer them on. Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins) remains, as ever, a jack-of-all-trades and a queen of all things. But this comes down to Emma Stone versus Annette Bening (20th Century Women), and it’s criminal to try to pick just one. Bening as the loving but withholding but maternal but independent everywoman iconoclast avatar for her generation slash intimately rendered depiction of director Mike Mills Golden Globes 2017 Live Stream ‘ real-life mother is….everything. She’s everything! We haven’t seen a performance this nuanced and fully realized since, well, Bening in The Kids Are All Right.

But Emma broke all our hearts into many small pieces AND tap-danced AND sang AND cracked us up in La La Land. If there were an award just for chemistry, she and Ryan Gosling would win it every time. So how do we pick? How? HOW THOUGH.

It comes down to screen time, which we know is a huge cop-out, but this is a frickin’ Sophie’s choice. Bening is the center of 20th Century Women but essentially leads a pack of incredible women that includes Greta Gerwig and Elle Fanning. Emma Stone is the undisputed female lead of La La Land.

Then again, are we actually going to give a movie points for having fewer women? You know what, come back to us on this.

SUPPORTING ACTRESS (FILM)

Who Is Nominated: Viola Davis, Fences; Naomie Harris, Moonlight; Nicole Kidman, Lion; Octavia Spencer, Hidden Figures; Michelle Williams, Manchester by the Sea

Who We Think Will Win: Viola Davis, Fences

Viola Davis could sneeze and we would be like, “Bravo. Iconic. Here’s my firstborn.”

(Nothing but love for Naomie Harris in Moonlight, Nicole Kidman in Lion, Octavia Spencer in Hidden Figures, and Michelle Williams in Manchester by the Sea, though!)

ACTRESS IN A DRAMA (TV)

Who Is Nominated: Caitriona Balfe, Outlander; Claire Foy, The Crown; Keri Russell, The Americans; Winona Ryder, Stranger Things; Evan Rachel Wood, Westworld

Who We Think Will Win: Evan Rachel Wood, Westworld

Winona (Ryder, Stranger Things), Claire (Foy, The Crown), Caitriona (Balfe, Outlander), and Keri (Russell, The Americans) have so much in common: They’re beautiful, talented white women in period dramas who might as well stay home on Sunday because the night belongs to Evan Rachel Wood, in my opinion. Westworld is a lot of things, many of them confusing, but above all it’s a high-wire act for its stars, who are simultaneously portraying different versions of the same semi-self-aware characters on multiple timelines and across consciousness levels. Watching ERW’s Dolores navigate the labyrinth of her own mind is by far the most compelling aspect of the buzzy drama. If she doesn’t win, we riot.

Also, not to gripe about the nominee list, because there are always more fantastic performances than spots, but no Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things? Really?

SUPPORTING ACTRESS (TV)

Who Is Nominated: Olivia Colman, The Night Manager; Lena Headey, Game of Thrones;Chrissy Metz, This Is Us; Mandy Moore, This Is Us; Thandie Newton, Westworld

Who We Think Will Win: Thandie Newton, Westworld

This award belongs to Thandie Newton for all the same reasons we gave Actresss in a Drama to Evan Rachel Wood—but with added humor and extra stabbing. Lena Headey is very good on Game of Thrones, but boy oh boy are we ever over Game of Thronessweeping awards ceremonies. Olivia Colman is low-key fantastic on The Night Manager, but when was the last time you heard someone excited about The Night Manager? And yes, Chrissy Metz and Mandy Moore are relatable and sweet on This Is Us, but This Is Usbelongs to Sterling K. Brown. It’s gotta be Thandie.

ACTRESS (MINI-SERIES OR TV MOVIE)

Who Is Nominated: Felicity Huffman, American Crime; Riley Keough, The Girlfriend Experience; Sarah Paulson, People v. O.J. Simpson; Charlotte Rampling, London Spy;Kerry Washington, Confirmation

Who We Think Will Win: Sarah Paulson, The People vs. OJ Simpson

Let’s break this down. Kerry Washington was Golden Globes Live great in Confirmation, even though Confirmation was drab. Riley Keough was stunning in The Girlfriend Experience, even though The Girlfriend Experience was seen by give or take seven people. Felicity Huffman is a consistently excellent actress, so it’s no surprise she delivered on American Crime, also known as “American Crime. No, not American Crime: The People vs. OJ Simpson. The other American Crime. I don’t know why they did that either.” I have literally never heard of London Spy, but Charlotte Rampling is a fantastic actress. Still, Sarah Paulson is going to win a Golden Globe, as she should.

ACTRESS IN A COMEDY (TV)

Who Is Nominated: Rachel Bloom, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep;Sarah Jessica Parker, Divorce; Issa Rae, Insecure; Gina Rodriguez, Jane the Virgin;Tracee Ellis Ross, Black-ish

Who We Think Will Win: Issa Rae, Insecure

Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) has more awards than any person should reasonably be able to store. Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) won this last year, and Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) did the year before. Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish) already won the award for most beautiful face ever attached to a human body. And while we are 74th Golden Globes Awards Live so glad that SJP is finally getting some recognition for her serious comedy chops, Divorce is still finding its footing. Television is better for the existence of Insecure. This is Issa Rae’s year.[source]

Joel Edgerton is a first-time Golden Globes Live Stream nominee, Mel Gibson is on a comeback tour with a best director nod for the Australian-produced Hacksaw Ridge, and Nicole Kidman has racked up her 10th Golden Globe nomination for the Australian-produced drama Lion.

Gibson and Kidman have a long history with the Golden Globe awards, given out for the past 74 years by a small group of foreign journalists based in Hollywood and long viewed as an important box to check on the way to the Academy Awards.

Says Kidman, “The first time I went to the Golden Globes, I was nominated for Billy Bathgate [1991 drama starring Dustin Hoffman] and I couldn’t believe anyone even knew who I was, so to get nominated was just stunning to me.” Times have changed for the movie star, whose date that year was her new husband, Tom Cruise. he Golden Globes are here once again, and with it the futility of trying to figure out who’s going to win. Beyond the difficulty and short timespan of all awards forecasting (we’re all about to find out who won anyway!), the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) often zigs exactly when you expect them to zag – Jon Hamm won an award in his last year of eligibility after being repeatedly stiffed for Mad Men, while Mozart in the Jungle of all things swooped in to take most of Transparent’s comedy awards.

This year, there are a few strong contenders, ranging from the one-and-done (the excellent FX miniseries The People v OJ Simpson, a bizarre and likely singular year of nominations for The Americans) to mainstays like Game of Thrones and Transparent to new shows in fresh under the wire, like Westworld, Atlanta and This is Us. Single shows rarely run the table in the TV categories, and even in the easier to predict acting categories there aren’t many genuine stars looking for easy awards gold, so 2017 might be an almost impossible year to nail your Golden Globes pool. Anyway, time for some guesses!

Best drama

golden globes live

Where the best drama Emmy often recognizes more stately, dialogue-heavy dramas (ie Mad Men), the Golden Globes generally acknowledge excellence in murder as part of their criteria – Homeland, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire. So British royalty drama The Crown and sappy freshman insurgent This is Us are likely out. That means Westworld or Stranger Things, both shows that have built a healthy amount of buzz on the back of monster and/or robot action. Of those two, Stranger Things is the one with the more solid head of steam – it might have significant problems, but the prospect of a 1980s pastiche without much in the vein of original ideas winning the best drama Golden Globe is so weird and frustrating that there’s no way it’s not going Golden Globes 2017 Live to happen. It’s a shame that Stranger Things is the show benefiting from that way, since perpetually nominated Game of Thrones is coming off its best season in years, finally paying off several seasons of character and plot development as it sets up for its bloody endgame. In this assembled field, Game of Thrones genuinely does deserve the statue.

Will win: Stranger Things
Should win: Game of Thrones

Best comedy

This is just a bizarre category – Mozart in the Jungle, a show that, somehow, won a year after the beginning of the awards deluge for Amazon’s higher profile, more dramatic, more relevant Transparent. Between those, Transparent seems much more likely to pull out a repeat win (giving a “best comedy” award to Mozart in the Jungle is like waking up in bed next to a last-minute Tinder date you barely remember meeting), but it’s still not the most deserving candidate. Of the nominees, Donald Glover’s Atlanta is by far the most formally innovative, and the one that does the most to open new possibilities for the form. (Also, unlike many prestige comedies, it has jokes.)

Will win: Transparent
Should win: Atlanta

Best miniseries

This is a tricky category. In theory, The Night Manager is exactly the sort of show that could, and most likely will, pull out a Golden Globes victory – a John Le Carré adaptation featuring some capital-A acting from Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman. But American Crime has been nominated in the past, and The Night Of has John Turturro, Riz Ahmed, Golden Globes 2017 Live Stream Online and enough of an awards-hungry patina that it could pull out an upset. Still, none of these are the best thing going in the category. The People v OJ Simpson has the whole package: the show’s cast includes several genuine movie stars (including the acting nominated John Travolta), a critical perspective on relevant questions about media spectacle, race and the criminal justice system, and, best of all, it’s genuinely gripping and one of the best TV shows of the last year. There’s a chance the HFPA will recoil at all of the Emmys love The People v OJ got, but that’s the only thing stopping it from more than justified gold.

Will win: The Night Manager
Should win: The People v OJ Simpson

Unlike the dramatic acting categories, this Golden Globe rarely goes to an established person. Instead, it’s a one-time attempted coronation (Tina Fey was the last person to repeat win the category), which means past winners Rachel Bloom and Gina Rodriguez, who have already gotten the benefit of Globes buzz, are likely out of the running. It also seems like HFPA has almost perversely set itself up to avoid giving the award to Julia Louis-Dreyfus, perhaps as a way of thumbing its nose at her inhuman dominance of the category at the Emmys. So, while Tracee Ellis Ross’ prodigious gifts as Rainbow Johnson on Blackish (a role that asks her to run the full gamut from put-upon sitcom mom to hypercompetent doctor to lost and adrift mixed-race woman) is an admirable long shot worth rooting for, Issa Rae will almost certainly win for Insecure.

The HFPA loves rewarding name-brand actors working on shows that are somewhat less prestigious – Geena Davis won for the short-lived series Commander in Chief –which means this is almost certainly Winona Ryder’s award to lose. (If there’s a spoiler on those terms Golden Globes awards 2017 Live Stream , it’s Evan Rachel Wood on Westworld, which may be a bit too recent for the Globes.) It’s too bad that Ryder is going to win. She’s a great actor, but the writing on Stranger Things doesn’t actually give her all that much to do other than play the aggrieved mother (her best scene partner is a tangle of Christmas lights). And Keri Russell, somehow nominated for the first time, deserves all of the acting awards in existence (and some that aren’t) for her thrilling, emotional, terrifying performance as Elizabeth Jennings on The Americans.

Will win: Winona Ryder
Should win: Keri Russell

This category is often an acknowledgment of the star power of whoever decided to appear in a miniseries or TV movie that year (Lady Gaga won last year!) But there are a few possibilities in 2017, none of which quite make the cut for an obvious winner. There’s Kerry Washington, who has been nominated for both Emmys and Golden Globes for Scandal but never won–nominated for playing Anita Hill in HBO’s Confirmation. There’s Charlotte Rampling, who could 74th Golden Globes Awards Live Stream conceivably get the nod for appearing in London Spy. And there’s award show bait Sarah Paulson, who deserves to win every award, not just the acting ones, and whose performance as Marcia Clark might have been the highlight of The People v OJ Simpson, a miniseries full of stellar acting. But I’m calling it: the winner is Felicity Huffman, for American Crime. Though she was nominated last year, Huffman plays a different character on this season of American Crime, and might not suffer from her familiarity with the voters. (She also won a Globe for her role in Transamerica, so.)

This category has followed best comedy for the past two years, as Jeffrey Tambor and then Gael Garcia Bernal took home trophies – and in years before that, the award has frequently gone to goofy performances in slightly less-acclaimed comedies. (Think Jim Parsons on The Big Bang Theory or, inexplicably, Don Cheadle on House of Lies.) Is it too much to hope, then, that Bernal and Tambor will lose out to the delightful Anthony Anderson for his work on Blackish? Blackish might be a broader series than Transparent, and Anderson doesn’t have the star power of fellow nominee Nick Nolte, but his good-natured turn as a sitcom dad earnestly and seriously navigating race in America is more than deserving of the award. There’s no immediately appealing newcomer who fulfills most of the HFPA’s criteria for past winners, but this is an acting category where established stars frequently win (Alec Baldwin has several trophies from 30 Rock), and Graves airs on Epix, a weird enough outlier that it might actually be attractive to the Globes. Nolte seems like a likely winner, but we Anthony Anderson fanboys can dream.

Last year, Jon Hamm belatedly won this award for his years as Don Draper on Mad Men, but this year’s only long-running nominee is Liev Schreiber – and while these predictions strive for accuracy, they will not take into consideration the possibility that Ray Donovan could possibly win any awards. So instead, the closest thing to Hamm in this field is Bob Odenkirk, overdue awards recognition after pulling off the remarkable feat of successfully porting the comic 74th Golden Globes 2017 Live Stream relief character of Saul Goodman into a drama. On Better Call Saul, the genuinely morally complex, conniving, winning Jimmy McGill has become a more compelling protagonist than Walter White ever was.

There’s also a chance Rami Malek will win again for Mr Robot, but the show’s second season gave him far less to do, and an award would likely be a belated indication that the voters have watched the first season. Instead, the real dark horse candidate, and the one who really should win, is Matthew Rhys. Odenkirk is deserving of this award, too, but he’ll likely have a few more chances to win (and a genuine shot at some Emmys). As Philip Jennings, Rhys has to play every single tone The Americans covers, from goofy 1980s suburban comedy to spy thriller to marital drama to existential, ideological conflict and conspiracy, and moves between them seamlessly. The Americans only has two seasons left, and who knows whether or not the HFPA or the Academy will deign to nominate them for anything.

The award in this category is going to go to the biggest star: Bryan Cranston playing Lyndon Baines Johnson. Nothing screams “Golden Globe” like “award-winning actor on niche TV series turned movie star playing a conflicted president”, so it feels pretty Golden Globes 2017 Live Online safe to make this prediction. Sorry John Turturro, sorry Riz Ahmed, looks like The Night Of is going to get shut out here. Sorry Tom Hiddleston, your relationship with Taylor Swift in conjunction with your starring role in The Night Manager didn’t get you the role of James Bond, and it isn’t going to get you this Golden Globe. Most importantly, sorry Courtney B Vance – you played Johnnie Cochran as a conflicted figure, simultaneously a huckster and a committed activist without coming down firmly on either side. Courtney, your performance was remarkable, and I’m sorry, but it’s still Cranston.

Will win: Bryan Cranston
Should win: Courtney B Vance

The supporting categories are all about standing out (especially since all series, miniseries, and TV movies are lumped in together) – so who’s making the biggest splash? There are a couple of plausible picks (in particular, Mandy Moore could win as a nod of recognition to This is Us), but it seems most likely that Thandie Newton will win for playing Maeve, Golden Globes Live a madam and a robot on Westworld – a role that became increasingly prominent and central as the show went on, which might play well with the voters. That’s bad news for Lena Headey, who, after years playing Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones, finally got the chance to cut loose and do some serious scenery-chewing. The season after she had to walk naked around King’s Landing, Cersei found herself a zombie knight enforcer, got to literally wear Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation outfit, and become the evil queen she was always destined to be. It’s been too long for any of the actors on Thrones to win awards until the last year they’re eligible, but this would’ve been Headey’s year.

Will win: Thandie Newton
Should win: Lena Headey

Playing by last year’s rules, where Christian Slater won in the Globes’ primary acknowledgment of Mr Robot, this one is likely going to go to Hugh Laurie for The Night Manager – they’re similarly established TV stars making slightly off-brand appearances. (Slater likely won’t be repeating.) On the other hand, there are two nominees from The People v OJ Simpson, and at least one of them has more than a fighting shot, assuming the HFPA doesn’t totally Golden Globes 2017 Live Stream shut the miniseries out. More than likely, this would be John Travolta, whose arch, drippy performance as Robert Shapiro somehow flew under the radar amidst all of the praise the show received, but Sterling K Brown’s understated, tightly wound Chris Darden somehow managed to become a romantic hero in a show that adamantly refused to have any – he more than deserved his Emmy, and he’d deserve this award too.[source]

Golden Globe Awards 2017 Live: Where and How to Watch

On Sunday night, Jimmy Fallon will host the Golden Globe Awards 2017 Live, the looser-than-the-Emmys-or-Oscars affair that honors the best in both film and television. The Tonight Show star is the first new host in seven years, after four stints from the oft-controversial Ricky Gervais and three from his former Saturday Night Live costars Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.

2017 Golden Globes: What Will Win, What Should Win
Our predictions for what movies, shows and actors are taking home the gold next Sunday night
On January 8th, the show will air at 8 p.m. EST on NBC. For those who want to tune in early and see the fashion trends on this year’s red carpet, NBC will air the Golden Globes Arrival Special at 7 p.m. EST. Red Carpet Live will air on E! one hour earlier, with Giuliana Rancic and Ryan Seacrest launching their coverage at 6 p.m. EST.
For those without a television set to watch the award show on, the pre-show and live event can be streamed from NBC.com. However, you will need a cable log-in to access the web version.
This year, the whimsical musical La La Land starring Golden Globe Awards Live Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone leads the film nominations while Ryan Murphy’s epic The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story leads the television nominations. Other top contenders include Deadpool, Stranger Things, Moonlight and 20th Century Women.

Hello, Hollywood! The Golden Globe Awards kicks off the 2017 awards season on Sunday, January 8, and Us Weekly has all the important information you need to know about how to watch the film and TV industry’s first glamorous night of the year.

The show, which will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon, will kick off at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. Red carpet coverage with Giuliana Rancic and Ryan Seacrest will start two hours before showtime, at 6 p.m. ET on E!. NBC will air its official Golden Globes Arrival Special at 7 p.m. ET.

For those without a TV set, all parts of the show — red carpet, preshow commentary and the live event itself — can be streamed from NBC.com. (Viewers will need a cable log-in to access the site’s livestream, and the awards will be simulcast on both coasts).

As for what to expect? Fallon, who previously hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2010, has promised a fun evening, even though his nerves always threaten to get the best of him. “I’m always so nervous,” he told Us at the Beverly Hilton on January 4. “I never know what’s going to happen. I always get butterflies.”

The veteran talk show host knows that helming an awards show is another beast entirely. “This show is the first time where the guests are my audience!” he added. “So I know they’re good guests, but I don’t know how they’ll be as audience members. Hopefully they’re laughing and happy and having a good time because everyone looks better when they smile!”

Front-runners for this year’s show include La La Land (seven nominations), Moonlight (six nominations) and Manchester by the Sea (five nominations). Absent from the nominations, however, was critical darling Birth of a Nation, which became an early favorite on the festival circuit but was mired in controversy due to director, writer and star Golden Globe Awards Live enduring rape scandal.

In the TV categories, this year’s standouts run a wide gamut of subject matter. The best television drama nominees include Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, This Is Us, Westworld and The Crown; the best television musical or comedy series nominees include Atlanta, Black-ish, Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle and Veep.

Us Weekly be covering the Golden Globes red carpet, show and afterparties Sunday, so be sure to check back for all the inside scoops!

The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon will be bringing his brand of nice-guy humor to the proceedings, replacing last year’s acerbic four-time host Ricky Gervais. It’ll be the “Saturday Night Live” alum’s first time hosting the boozy affair, but not his debut at the helm of a high-profile ceremony — he hosted the Emmy Awards in 2010, when the show aired on NBC.

“The Golden Globes are exciting for me to host because I get to wear this tuxedo I’m already practicing wearing every single night and just handing out awards to random people,” Fallon quipped in a TV spot.

Incidentally, the funnyman has won four Primetime Emmy Awards, but has yet to be nominated for a Golden Globe.

WHO ARE THE NOMINEES?

The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., which began as a handful of L.A.-based overseas journalists in the 1950s but now represents 56 countries, selects the nominees and winners for the ceremony, which awards recipients across movies, television and music.

In film, “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Hell or High Water,” “Lion,” “Manchester by the Sea” and “Moonlight” were nominated for best drama picture, and “20th Century Women,” “Deadpool,” “Florence Foster Jenkins,” “La La Land” and “Sing Street” were nominated for musical or comedy picture category.

In television, “The Crown,” “Game of Thrones,” “Stranger Things,” “This Is Us” and “Westworld” earned nods in the drama category, while “Atlanta,” “black-ish,” “Mozart in the Jungle,” “Transparent” and “Veep” were selected among the year’s best comedies. “American Crime,” “The Dresser,” “The Night Manager,” “The Night Of” and “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” are up for limited series or TV movie.

A notable mention goes out to “Florence Foster Jenkins” star Meryl Streep, who is set to attend the show as this year’s recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.” The 67-year-old actress 74th Golden Globe Awards 2017 Live — a three-time Oscar winner — has earned 29 Golden Globe nominations in her 40-plus year career in film and has won eight.

Golden Globes 2017: TV Snubs and Surprises

Share Button

The Golden Globes have a recent Golden Globes 2017 Live history of confounding expectations (“Mozart in the Jungle”) and latching on to buzzy new shows (“Mr. Robot”) in their TV nominations. This year’s nods feel less adventurous. Even though four new shows made the field for drama series, none of them was unexpected. With so much new TV to process all the time, it becomes more difficult for existing series to break through the chatter. Witness “Mr. Robot,” gone from the drama nominees after winning in its first season.

SNUB

Breaking through with a drama-series nomination at the Emmys didn’t help “The Americans,” which was left out of that category once again. At least the FX series broke its Golden Globes jinx — no nominations through its first three seasons — with acting nods for Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys.

SURPRISE

NBC’s “This Is Us” was a non-surprise surprise in the drama-series category — its nomination was widely predicted, given the tear-jerker’s ratings success. But it’s not a show anyone would have expected to see on this list when the fall season began.

HBO’s “Divorce” hasn’t moved the Golden Globes Winners needle very far with critics or viewers, but it was a dark-horse favorite for a comedy-series nomination because its star, Sarah Jessica Parker, has long been a favorite of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (as shown by her nomination for lead actress).

The Epix political comedy “Graves” got very little attention, but apparently someone noticed Nick Nolte’s gruff performance as an apologetic former president. Or maybe they just wanted an excuse to invite him to the awards party.

SNUB

Photo

FX’s “Atlanta” drew expected nominations for comedy series and for Donald Glover as lead actor. But its breakout star, Lakeith Stanfield, who plays a rapper’s zoned-out (but wise) assistant, didn’t make it into the supporting actor field. Will the Globes be treated to a Kanye West-style acceptance-speech-bomb like the one Mr. Stanfield pulled at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday?

SURPRISE

Starz’s “The Dresser” beat out some heavy hitters in the limited-series or movie category, including HBO’s “All the Way” and “Confirmation” and Netflix’s “Gilmore Girls” revival.

SNUB

It’s hard to imagine that “The Dresser” 74rd Golden Globe Awards would have received any consideration if not for its stars, Ian McKellen and Anthony Hopkins, so it’s puzzling that neither of them was nominated for an acting award.

SNUB

HBO’s “Silicon Valley,” widely considered one of television’s best comedies and a Globe nominee the past two years, didn’t make the field this time, pushed out by the arrivals of “Atlanta” and “black-ish.”
